Ever wondered why some people are sensitive to alcohol and medications while other seem to experience minimal side effects? The answer may be in your genes!
We are all unique and this is proven when we look at the genes. No one is perfect!, everyone has a range of variations in their genes called polymorphisms, and some people have variations in genes that dictate how effectively the liver can metabolise a range of substances including toxins and hormones.
People shown to have elevated heavy metals despite not having regular exposure to toxins may want to consider a gene test as certain polymorphisms can relate to specific types of toxins.
Gene polymorphisms can also dictate how effectively we metabolise hormones, which is why some women are more sensitive than others to changes in their cycle or the oral contraceptive pill. Polymorphisms of these liver associated genes can predispose women and men to hormonally driven conditions associated with tissue proliferation caused by poor hormone metabolism; these include, fibrocystic breasts, polyps and fibroids in women and prostate problems including benign prostatic hyperplasia in men.
People shown to have these types of polymorphisms may want to consider detoxification on an annual basis and adopt some of the principles of detoxification, such as eating organic into everyday practice.
Regardless of your genes everyone can benefit from a detox. If you would like to find out more about DNA testing watch the video below, or speak to us in clinic.
