Exercise is a vital part of any wellbeing program, it makes you feel fantastic, helps to oxygenate your body, manage stress, build muscle mass and maintain a healthy body composition.
In the first few days of ketosis you may not feel up to participating in your usual sport as your body quite literally has to get used to burning a different type of fuel. While carbohydrates are fast fuel and easy to burn, fat is slow fuel and you need to allow a few days for your body to become accustomed. Having said that, once you have been in well managed, ‘trace’ or ‘small’ ketosis for a while everything becomes very stable, your energy improves, sugar craving decrease significantly and meals leave you feeling fuller for longer.
Depending on the level of exercise you are used to and how quickly you stabilise in ketosis, you should be able to return to your regular exercise regime within a week. If you have a high level of exercise (or a sporting event coming up) please speak to us beforehand, as we will coach you in adjusting your diet to meet your training needs. If you didn’t have an exercise regime prior to starting the program, now is the time to start! We love exercise and can help you get started with some suggestions or even referrals to local personal trainers if needed. Ultimately you will lose weight just through the diet, however our aim is to make that weight loss sustainable long-term and in order to do that we have to ensure you have adequate muscle mass to sustain a healthy metabolism.
