Normal Scales vs BIA

ScalesAt your initial appointment you would have received your Bioimpedance analysis report, which details your current muscle mass, fat mass, fluid balance and biomarkers of cellular health.

Sometimes this can be quite confronting to look at the facts laid out on paper for the first time and get a clear understanding of how much excess fat you have to lose and how much muscle mass you may have to gain to get into a healthy body composition.

Normal scales only give us a baseline in kilograms whereas the BIA report details our current health biomarkers and calculates your ideal body composition based on you frame, height and gender.

Most people don’t realise that being under muscle can be quite detrimental to your metabolism and you may have to incorporate a specific exercise regime with your Weight Loss Program in order to truly correct you metabolism and maintain weight loss long-term.

People may also be surprised to realise that some of the weight they have been seeing on the scales is actually fluid. One litre of extra fluid equals one extra kilogram. People can retain fluid if they have low-grade inflammation or toxicity and sometimes the first few kilos are really representative of a correction in fluid balance, especially if people have had treatment for dysbiosis and leaky gut treatment at the start of their program – a major cause of low-grade inflammation, toxicity and fluid retention.

Regular MonitoringVLA Report

Every time you come to see us we will repeat your bioimpedence analysis. Our reporting software is able to breakdown every parameter so we can tell from visit to visit what has changed. We will provide you with comparative reports so you can see your results and understand how your body is changing over the course of the program.

Preparation for your Bioimpedance Analysis

Please make sure that you don’t exercise the day of your Bioimpedance Analysis as this may alter your fluid balance. Alcohol will also immediately alter your fluid balance, so if you have had an absolutely unavoidable social situation and have had to break ketsosis, please make sure you reschedule your appointment for when you are back in ketosis. It is also important to note that women may experience small fluctuations in fluid balance according to their menstrual cycle or if they have changed oral contraceptive, this is temporary and we can take this into account when you come in for your Bioimpedance analysis if you let us know.
